After 30 hours since leaving home I've had a lovely flight which actually went too quick and have got a first taster of the city of Beijing. First impression is that it is very big and it definitely would help if you spoke or could read Mandarin. Getting the train went fine until getting out just when it felt right. Then I met this other traveller who was on the same flight from Amsterdam, a Swiss nurse guy called Phil. He had already booked a place at the International Youth Hostel so I thought why not go along with him and there must be something around that area. So this is where I am now, it's quite nice, quite hard to find if you don't know it's here, sort of hidden away in a little hutong (alley). Right next to the Forbidden city and Tiannemen Square.
First view of Beijing from the airport to the city by train
Fried sea horse and scorpions (still alive and wiggling) on a stick!
More photos to come! It won't let me upload any more for the moment!
